Exoplanet phases seen in visible light

In this artist depiction, CoRoT-1b can be seen in several phases as it orbits its sun. Because the planet is tidally locked, it has a permanent dayside and nightside. For the first time, astronomers have observed the phases of an extrasolar planet in visible light, as the world orbits around its star.
